Highlights van The Analytical Challenge: Peter Schoenmakers - Polymers Molecules, more than just large
Discussiegroep Scheidingsmethoden en Polymeren (DSP): 10.50-11.35 uur
Peter Schoenmakers
This lecture focuses on the molecular characterization of polymers. The most important characteristic of polymer molecules is their size (molecular-weight distribution). In this presentation the focus will be on different aspects of polymer molecules, such as their chemical composition and subtle differences in, for example, branching and functionality. Separations, mass spectrometry and other techniques will be considered.
Peter studied chemical engineering at the TU Delft an obtained his MSc degree in 1977. After spending one year in Boston (MA, USA), working with Prof. B.L. Karger, he obtained a PhD from Delft (Prof. L. de Galan) with a thesis on reversed-phase liquid chromatography. From 1983 to 1992 he worked at Philips in Eindhoven and from 1992 to 2002 he was with Shell in Amsterdam and in Houston (TX, USA). In 1992 he became a part-time professor at the UvA, where he works full time since 2002. His research interests include polymer analysis, analytical separations and forensic science.
